Freon AKA Refrigerant
Freon is a made up of many chemicals and used as a refrigerant within your air conditioning system. At room temperature Freon works as a gas, however, at cooler temperatures it is a liquid.
Why is Freon used?
The Freon is found within the compressor of your Coral Springs air conditioning system. The Freon is in a closed loop system meaning that the Freon is continuously reused, having to not need to add more. There can be leaks with the Freon.
Freon Leaks
Since Freon leaks occur so commonly the Air Conditioning Contractors of America believe that your air conditioning systems refrigerant, Freon, levels need to be checked yearly. If your system is just 10% low in its levels then it could be costing you a minimum of 20% more monthly. Freon is much heavier than air therefore it falls to the floor when it is leaking. Freon has a high volatility, which will cause the Freon to disperse. If your system is leaking, it is federal law that you may not add more Freon.
Freon’s effect on your health
People may think that Freon is very dangerous to their health because it is composed of chemicals, however, it does not have an extreme long term health concerns yet it could have major health problems. Freon is not known as a carcinogen or cause major problem to your body. Freon’s displaces the oxygen within the air, which causes dizziness and in extreme cases suffocation.
Freon is a part of your air conditioning system and it is an important thing to check. Even if the usual health problems are minor there are cases where the problems are drastic and you never want to be that case. Check your condenser yearly to make sure there is not a Freon leak, but remember you might need a professional to tell you because it is hard to tell if there is a leak.
